Honey for Acne

Most foods that are sweet and sugary should be avoided. Honey might the only exception this rule. Mother nature sure does work in mysterious ways. Honey is both beneficial when eaten and also when it’s used as a facial mask. You will probably see the most benefits when you use it as a mask.

The Honey Acne Treatment

There is only one kind of honey that should (or even can) be used effectively for acne treatment. The honey that a person wants to help with their acne is raw, organic, unprocessed honey. Once honey has been processed and heated for commercial sale many of the chemicals that it contains which are useful in healing and acne prevention are destroyed. This is through the process of chemical breakdown and/or denaturing the enzymes within the honey. Both of these events are primarily caused by heat.

The treatment process is somewhat simple. First and foremost, make sure that your face is clean and clear of makeup, oils, dirt, and water. Cleanse the face well and pat dry. Make sure not to touch your face with your fingers during the process, as some of the oils that are found in your hands and fingers can cause an acne outbreak. Using a cotton ball or something like a spoon, apply the honey to the face as you would a mask. Allow the honey mask to remain for around fifteen or twenty minutes, rinse off with warm water, and pat dry with a towel. Once this is done, your face should, even after one application, feel smoother and more hydrated. This process can be done daily or, at the very least, three times per week for the best results.

Buying Guide

As I previously mentioned, you can’t just go out and buy any type of honey. It has to be a specific type. It has to raw, unheated, and unprocessed. Otherwise it’s not going to be healthy, and it’s not going to help your skin. Buying the wrong kind would be a complete waste of your time. The best way to get honey is to buy it locally. You would be getting a quality product and would also be supporting a local business. If this isn’t an option then there is a great brand for sale online- it comes from Y.S. Eco Bee Farms. It has outstanding reviews on amazon and people are say that it’s the best honey they’ve ever tasted. This premium brand is also quite affordable. A 22 ounce jar can be bought on Amazon.

Final Thoughts

Honey, while not scientifically proven to be an acne treatment, has been shown to have good effects on acne by those who suffer. Many people who suffer from acne swear by “home-grown” acne cures such as honey masks as opposed to the commercially available products that are available on the market today. Honey is not a cure-all, and diet and exercise still play an important role in the outbreak of acne, but it can be a good addition to any current acne regime.
